Welcome to the new Grymer/Sterner® toggle suture online resource and reference site for veterinarians.

The primary focus of this Web site is to present a 'step-by-step' method of left displaced abomasum (LDA) repair in the bovine utilizing the Grymer/Sterner® toggle suture method. The secondary focus of this Web site is to share some helpful techniques and insights, which we have learned from years of clinical experience.

LDA repair with the Grymer/Sterner® toggle suture is by no means the only, or in some cases, the first choice of LDA repair, but it does have an important place in LDA repair of appropriately selected cows. Therefore, if you plan to employ this method of repair, it is important to select your candidates well, and to employ good procedural techniques. This site is designed to present some useful strategies, which will ultimately result in the successful outcome of LDA repair.

Memorial Tribute

Dr. Jorgen Grymer, DVM, PhD

On March 1, 2017 Dr. Jorgen Grymer lost a courageous 3 year battle with a highly malignant form of brain cancer, Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). Dr. Grymer was a 3rd generation veterinarian. Both his father and grandfather served in mixed animal practices in the area surrounding Galten, Denmark. Dr. Grymer raised his family in Galten, and was a partner in the Galten Animal Hospital for 25 years prior to his death.

Following graduation at The Royal College of Veterinary Medicine in Copenhagen, Denmark, Dr. Grymer accepted a faculty position at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. There he met Dr. Keith Sterner, and the two of them collaborated on the development of the Grymer/Sterner™ method of Left Displaced Abomasum (LDA) repair using the toggle suture. He was a frequent author and co-author on a number of LDA repair studies. In addition, he made numerous presentations on this topic.

Dr. Grymer had a rich and varied career in veterinary medicine. He had the opportunity to work on large dairy operations in both Lybia and Saudi Arabia, and to teach at Michigan State University for several years, before returning to Denmark. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved nature, hunting and fishing. He leaves behind his wife, Anne Marie, and two adult children, Catherine and Christopher. His wit, humor, intellect, and friendship will be greatly missed.
